Death by Books

This weekend K and I went book hunting and found ourselves in a shop that closely resembled an episode from Hoarders.

A bookstore should have a wide selection of books... but this was overboard. Books were piled high to the ceiling. Books were heaped onto tables. Books were laden between the isles. I often had to squeeze through piles of books on the floor that were higher than me to get to the next shelf!

Two flights of stairs and we were in the basement. Lights flickered as we stood looking at, seriously, a mountain of books.

I totally regret forgetting to bring my camera on this outing. What I saw is hard to describe, and all I have to show for the experience are two slightly fuzzy Ipod pictures.

Let me begin by saying that I'm not loving that I'm home after a five week stay in England. It is nice to get back to a life of normalacy... but I left a very important person on the other side of the world.

So, what am I loving?

1.

This Youtube video is super adorable. The pup so reminds me of my own furry babies. I can only guess how many times I have hit 'replay' since a Facebook friend posted it yesterday afternoon.


2. That airport goodbyes are always followed by a new countdown. A few days ago I said goodbye to E in London. In just 28 days I'll be greeting him at my airport's arrivals area. This is our shortest time spent apart yet, and I am so so thankful!

The Wedding

I'll admit that I have taken a long time to write about the wedding... I wasn't really in one place shortly after April 29th. I wanted to see the wedding's aftermath in England. I also wanted to see how my North American hometown had reacted to the wedding.

I'm Home

I'm home!

It's 1AM where I am, but 9AM in England.... let's just say I'm wide awake and completely and utterly lost in the time zone change.

So, how was the trip? Fantastic. I didn't want to leave. And, you'll be pleased to know, I acquired a huuuuuuge stack of new books.

Okay, maybe not that huge... but I do have a dozen new and shiny covers sitting on my table.

Picture Me Wednesday - 2011 Week 13

As you may know, I've been in the UK for awhile now. Due to differences in power wattage (and not wanting to fry my electronic devices), I haven't been able to upload photos. But, I'll soon be trading the Atlantic Ocean for my hometown waters of the Pacific (pictured here). This photo reminds me of my oh-so-far-away home.

The Cookie Speaks

Tonight, after a dinner of Chinese food, I was greeted with three fortune cookie paper slips. One cookie, three slips... that's bang for your buck!

Book Sales - Yes or No?

Yesterday morning I woke up bright and early to head into the Big City. Okay, maybe it wasn't bright and early, but I did get up with a mission.

You see, the main library was hosting a Book Sale and it just so happened that I had books to return (like the recently reviewed The Heretic's Daughter). I love spending an afternoon at the library on ordinary days, so with a Book Sale in full swing, I knew I had to visit.

These are my 'boys in blue.' This was taken during the last game I attended in January 2011. Recent Canuck news? We're still holding number one position in the ranks and Luongo (our goalie and my favourite player) just scored his 300th win. Bring on the playoffs!

Picture Me Wednesday - 2011 Week 4

I'm stuck in the throws of crazy-a** weather. Last weekend was comprised of removing snow from the drive. Today my Province is scheduled to have 'hurricane-force winds.' But, this picture taken only a few weeks ago reminds me that we're on the verge of Spring... bring on the sun instead of snow! It's March!

My Kitchen of Late

There is one cookie that has been an absolute hit here in Vancouver - JJ loves them, K loves them... heck, even I love them. These yummy treats are also E's favourite - so last week I sent him home with a container full to the brim of Chocolate Peanut-Butter Cookie Duos. I can't tell you how weird it was to be on Skype and see my little cookies being eaten halfway across the world! As a kind reminder to my old readers (and a pointer for new readers), make sure to try your hand at these cookies - if you love chocolate and peanut butter I'm sure you'll be pleased.


And, my most recent creation?

JJ kindly put in an order for Banana Chocolate Chip Cookies. I've been told they are as tasty as the batch I made last September.

Picture Me Wednesday - 2011 Week 3

Long, long overdue... but alas, week 3 of Picture Me Wednesday!

This week I'm picturing one of my favourite areas in BC. Every night the buildings' silhouettes are outlined in golden lights. Me and E visited this spot earlier this February for a mini-getaway. I absolutely love this city!

Vows

I’ve been feeling down and I can’t exactly put my finger on why. I feel like I have been trapped in a whirlwind. My intuition has been going haywire. Maybe this is how life greets a graduate? Maybe I miss university life… or something else? I don’t know.

So why am I throwing all this out onto the web? Well, I've recently heard of a new writing exercise. It sounded like an interesting and creative way to spend a weekday night… and spew pent-up emotion.

The deal? Write a piece of fiction/non-fiction or poem/list (basically anything) with each sentence of your work starting with a letter of the alphabet, in sequential order. In the end you’ll be left with 26 sentences.

Confused yet? Hopefully you won't be after you read my entry. And maybe, just maybe, you'll want to make one of your own. If you do, feel free to add a link to your post in the comments - I'd love to read what you come up with!
